(Not forgetting our best feathered, finned, fancy and farm friends!)
What would we do without them? Our BFFs offer us companionship, joy and love in bucketloads, maybe also our livelihood and a lifeline in the case of therapy pets and working animals. Human-Animal Interaction studies show that "adults with pets have a healthier response to stress, including a lower heart rate and blood pressure" and is "associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and better overall heart health" (Waltham.com/science) as well as many other benefits.
It has been reported that Reiki practitioners who own and care for pets have repeatedly observed greater connection and understanding between their animals and themselves, and when the body (human or animal) is relaxed, it can more easily access its natural healing capacity to recover from illness, injury or stress.
Reiki is a complementary therapy in the form of a relaxing hands-on-or-off healing treatment. The practitioner helps you to connect to deeply relaxing physical and mental states, de-stressing body and mind to tap into the body's natural ability to heal itself.
The same goes with animals. And because animals are very sensitive, if owners are stressed, pets can pick up on this easily. This may trigger or exacerbate emotional or behavioural problems within the animals themselves, so a great way to help any issues with your BFF is to consider treating both of you.
Reiki treatments can be given safely alongside any treatment given by your doctor or veterinary surgeon.
The physical, mental and emotional healing that one benefits from during a Reiki treatment is simply a side effect of the wonderful meditative practice that a Reiki practitioner engages in daily.
A meditation-based practice for any age or ability (think along the lines of an even less strenuous Tai Chi or Yoga!) Reiki invites health and happiness into your life by supporting good mental health and a balanced lifestyle.
Your pets will benefit from the greater wellbeing that you feel within yourself, and they too will instinctively relax into the Reiki sessions with you, reaping the benefits for themselves.
